Primary 7 in Room 8 with Mrs McBrearty and Mrs McAuslan

All children have settled well into Primary 7 and are enjoying taking on the extra responsibilities that come along with being 'top' of the school.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.  Children should have trainers for PE and ensure all jewellery is removed.
Homework will be sent home in the children's Homework jotters on a Monday as well as being uploaded to Google Classroom.  Children can complete these tasks in their jotter or upload them onto Google Classroom for the following Friday.

Regular updates will be uploaded to our Class X (formerly known as Twitter) page.

Literacy and English - 2/10/23
Our whole class novel, this term, is Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo with a focus on the reading strategies, visualisation and Inference.  We enjoyed listening to the character description of Kensuke through an audio book and noting down key information about him before drawing him.  We have been learning about the different types of questions, literal, inferential and evaluative and learning to distinguish between the 3.
Linking with our Titanic topic, we have been reading many different texts about The Titanic and learning to summarise using the key points and putting into our own words.
What you can do at home - Summarise the story, Kensuke's Kingdom, by telling someone at home what has happened so far in the book.  Remember to include only the key parts.

In writing,  we are in the first stages of our Talk for Writing process where we create our own story map and actions to go along with it in order to recall the story.  We are looking forward to sharing this with you at our Meet the Teacher this week.
What you can do at home - Retell the story at home to an adult using the actions you have helped create in class.

Numeracy and Mathematics  - 2/10/23
At the beginning of P7 we were consolidating our learning to identify areas of focus for the coming session.  We have been recalling the times tables from 2-12 and linking these with division.  We have also been learning about prime, cube and square numbers and identifying these numbers from 1-100.  This week we will continue our work on Place Value as we take our learning outside as part of Maths Week Scotland.
What you can do at home -  Ensure you know all of your times tables.  Ask someone to test you on these.

Health and Wellbring - 2/10/2023
During our PATHS lessons we have been learning to recognise the things that cause us stress and identify ways to deal with these situations when they arise. We have been learning to use breathing techniques to calm us down.
What you can do at home - Show someone at home the breathing technique where you, slow down your breathing and take a slow deep breath through your nose.  Tell yourself to calm down and let the air out slowly through your mouth.  Say, 'Good' to yourself, to give yourself praise.
