Engine Idling (added 17.12.13)

South Lanarkshire’s Environmental team have asked us to draw this information to your attention.

“We are now reaching that time of year when there is greater temptation at school pick up times to keep the engine running due to the cold temperatures. Such activities can however negatively impact the quality of air – the air our children have to breathe in. The Council through officers from Fleet and Environmental Services will be undertaking patrols during the winter months of December, January and February. Engine idling that is unnecessary is an offence. Officers will distribute information and advise drivers about the harmful effects of engine idling. If a driver fails to turn their engine off they may be issued with a £20 fixed penalty notice. All drivers are asked to note this and to take heed of the advice on engine idling.”

Halfmerke Sports day (added 10.6.14) On Tuesday 10th June we had our own Commonwealth themed sports day. We did loads of fun sports and earned points for our  houses (Kelso, Elgin and Stirling). India (Elgin) came first with Barbados (Kelso) following in 2nd and Kenya (Elgin) coming 3rd. It could not be held outside due to the grass being wet because of heavy rain the day before but that didn’t dampen our Halfmerke spirits.

P6 Visit Belfast – Titanic Museum (added 10.6.14) On the 30th May, primary 6 and a few lucky P7’s went to Belfast to visit the Titanic Museum.  They enjoyed the experience which included 9 galleries showcasing the true story of the titanic disaster.  Everybody had a great day and would go back again.
P7 Activity Week   (added 10.6.14) On the 3.6.14, P7 went on their activity week. On the Tuesday they learnt lots of useful skills for their camping trip, including putting up a tent, using and setting up a stove and shelter building. The next day they did rock climbing at one of Europe’s largest climbing centre. Finally was the overnight, they learnt how to kayak, build rafts and mountain bike.

Get up and Dance (added 20.5.14) During the school health week, we all learned a type of dance in an hour and were asked to get sponsors to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. At an assembly in April 2014, Mrs Douglas presented a large cheque to a Make a Wish volunteer for an amazing £1,862.75! Well done to everyone that got sponsored!
